Hawkes Bay - New Zealand

Hawke’s Bay is a region of New Zealand situated on the east coast of the north island and is widely recognised on the world stage for its award winning wines.

Napier, located in Hawkes Bay, has one of the largest concentrations of Art Deco buildings in the world. Back in 1931 when it was hit by an earthquake and terrible fire, the building that were rebuilt that followed this devastation where in the art deco style which was the fashionable thing to do back then, but today many people that come to the North Island of New Zealand make sure that they witnesses these amazingly styled buildings.

The Hawke’s Bay vineyards are all within a short distance of Napier and Hastings, the other city in the region. More than 30 vineyards are open to the public for wine tasting as well as offering cafés and restaurants with indoor and al fresco dining to suit all needs. But who would want to sit inside when you can not only delight your taste buds with a delicious meal but also astound your eyes with breathtaking views for all around. The region is especially known for its fine Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties.

The Gannets, which are large sea birds, are commonly seen in this region and call it home. It is one of only two known mainland colonies of these animals which many people come to see when they are in the area. They nest on the very tip of Cape Kidnappers, making for a very unique attraction, as they show off their skills of fishing with up to speeds of 145km/h head first straight into the sea. A spectacle not to be missed!

Hawkes Bay also boasts many other attractions such as excellent shopping in the main towns, fishing either out on the ocean or along the rivers, horse trekking, rafting on the Mohaka River, bush walking and much more.
