Hamilton Island has the largest holiday resort in the Whitsunday Islands. The resort is more like a small town with golf buggies replacing cars to provide access to all of the facilities that are available. The resort itself provides accommodation to suit all budgets and is the most easily accessed as the island has its own airport. The Great Barrier Reef airport has regular services with Virgin Blue, Jetstar and Qantas from Cairns in the north and from all the southern capitals of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. The resort new includes golf in its itineraries with an 18 hole championship course now newly completed on adjacent Dent Island and available now with accommodation and golf packages..

Hamilton Island has its own harbour, marina and shopping precinct. This means that you are not restricted to dining in the resort restaurants and there is a better range of boutique and souvenir shops than you would generally experience at a resort. There is also an almost never ending range of activities to keep you occupied. Water sports are at the top of the list with windsurfers, catamarans and sailing cruises readily available. There are also fishing charters and trips to the Great Barrier Reef. For those who like to stay dry try bushwalking, the golf driving range or visiting the Koala park. There is a terrific range of restaurants to choose from. Fish and Chips are available on the harbour foreshore, as is a great steak, a sandwich or a wrap or settle in for some elegant fine dining with a view of the yachts.

The accommodation on Hamilton Island is second to none. If you want absolute luxury then try Qualia resort. The accommodation here consists of very private self contained lodges with magnificent views over the Whitsundays Passage and service and dining that is unbelievable. The Reef View Hotel has a range of 5star and 4 star hotel and suite accommodation commanding majestic views over the surrounding islands and the Coral Sea. Next door to the Reef View Hotel are the local Holiday Apartments which provide self catering accommodation which is ideal for families. This level of Hamilton Island accommodation is also located marina side. The Palm Bungalows are also popular with families and they provide individual cabin style accommodation set amid a lush tropical garden and beneath a forest of coconut palms.If you are holidaying with the kids on hamilton Island you should consider booking into the beautiful Whitsunday holiday Apartments as they are right on the beachfront and overloking a smart swimming pool complex.
