Skiing in Australia gives the northern hemisphere ski enthusiast the opportunity to ski in the northern off season in some of the most picturesque surroundings in the world. The Australian snow fields, situated in the snowy mountains area of southern New South Wales and northern Victoria provide ski resorts with a wide range of terrain to suit the level of expertise of any skier. There are a number of resorts with plenty of lifts and chairs to cater for the fussiest tourist. Accommodation, both on snow and off, caters for every budget. You can choose from every thing from a backpacker hostel right through to five star hotels and apartments. Restaurants and cafés abound and the aprés ski fun is legendary.

In New South Wales you can choose between the resorts at Perisher Valley, Thredbo or Mt Selwyn or you can find off snow accommodation in the nearby lakeside village of Jindabyne and take the ski tube to the snow each day. In Victoria the main ski resorts are at Mt Hotham, Falls Creek, Mt Buffalo and Mt Buller. Once again there is plenty of accommodation both on and off snow. Mount Hotham is the highest ski field in Australia and the accommodation is all on the ski field. The towns of Mt Beauty and Bright are both close to Falls Creek and there are many accommodation options here as well.
