An extensive river system, which includes the Ovens and King Rivers, winds through a sprinkling of townships that dot the valleys and plains, like hundreds and thousands, meeting at Wangaratta. The city of Wangaratta is the hub and the largest urban centre in the district. This region with spectacular scenery is well known for wine and gourmet food. It is also a gateway to Victoria’s ski fields and numerous national parks. It is a beautiful drive south along the Great Alpine Road, and definitely worth exploring.

Eldorado which is only 20km away is an interesting old gold town which has the largest gold dredge in the Southern Hemisphere. As well as being able to make good use of the many scenic roads leading to quaint townships and natural attractions, such as Powers Lookout and Paradise Falls in the King Valley. Within this plentiful region you can find many wineries, gourmet foods, fishing, skiing at Falls Creek or Mount Hotham, hiking, bushwalks and so much more.
