What to expect

You'll start early and spend most of the 12 hours outdoors on two separate hikes broken by a lunch stop. The first walk from Tidal River to Pillar Point is easier, following the river through bushland before opening to coastal views. After refuelling at the general store, Mt Oberon is the day's main challenge—a 7.8 km return hike with genuine elevation. The summit rewards you with extensive coastal perspectives. Later you'll stroll Squeaky Beach's unusual terrain, then finish with a gentle wildlife-spotting stretch where native animals move freely around you. Bring proper footwear; the tracks are well-formed but uneven.

Good to know

Pack lunch money (around $25) as meals aren't included. Moderate fitness is essential—this suits regular walkers, not beginners. Wear comfortable hiking boots or trainers, bring 1L water minimum, layers for cooler weather, sunscreen and a hat. Rain ponchos provided. The park entrance fee is covered.
