What to expect

You'll depart before dawn for a three-hour drive northward. Upon arrival at Nitmiluk, the two-gorge cruise becomes your main event—a ranger-guided journey through narrow sandstone passages where you'll climb between boats using an uneven rock face (no handrails). Expect close-up views of cliff formations, river systems and local flora whilst learning about the area's Jawoyn heritage. After disembarking, grab lunch from the café, then choose between a steep uphill walk to the lookout or a quieter wander along the riverfront. The cultural centre offers context on the region. Katherine Hot Springs follows—a chance to float in warm mineral water. The return journey mirrors the outbound drive.

Good to know

The rock crossing between gorges is uneven with no railings; unsuitable for those with mobility concerns. Wet season closures swap hot springs for Edith Falls. Pack water and sun protection. Lunches are included but drinks aren't. Six hours of driving (three each way) means an early start and late finish.
