What to expect
You'll drive yourself to the car park at Lancelin, then board a 4WD truck for a 45-minute sprint across the dunes—expect bumps, speed, and plenty of wind in your face as the driver navigates the terrain. The truck stops at strategic points so you can grab a sandboard and slide down the faces of the dunes. It's physically demanding; the descents require balance and stamina, and the impacts can be jarring. The landscape is genuinely striking: bleached sand against blue sky and water in the distance.
Good to know
Moderate fitness required; spinal injuries, pregnancy, and poor cardiovascular health rule you out. Wear layers—sun exposure is intense, but it cools quickly when moving. Sandboard grip can be slippery, so expect a steep learning curve if you've never done it.
