What to expect
Day one combines water thrills: you'll float lazily downriver in a tube, then paddle harder through whitewater. Days two and three shift focus to scenery and culture. The Tablelands circuit takes you to cascading waterfalls, crater lakes where you can swim, and ancient fig trees that dwarf everything around them. The final day in Daintree is slower-paced but denser with detail—a local guide walks you through rainforest ecology, conducts a ceremony acknowledging the land's traditional owners, then you drift along the river spotting crocodiles and birds. Expect humidity, insects, and a mix of adrenaline and contemplation.
Good to know
Not suitable if pregnant, or if you have spinal injuries or heart conditions. Moderate fitness essential. River Levy ($55 AUD) paid on the day; most meals and extras cost extra. Bring sunscreen, reef-safe if possible, and water shoes for rocky creek beds.
