This 30-minute helicopter flight from Cairns sweeps westward over the Great Dividing Range, taking in Lake Morris, Copperlode Dam, and the dramatic Barron Gorge before circling Barron Falls and Kuranda village. You'll glimpse the Skyrail Cableway and Scenic Railway from above, then turn back toward the coast with views across rainforest slopes, Double Island, Palm Cove, and out to the reef. A pilot provides commentary throughout.

What to expect

You'll board at Cairns and climb steeply westward, banking over the city before the landscape shifts to forested slopes and mountain terrain. The flight tracks along water features—first Lake Morris with its bird activity, then Copperlode Dam—before entering Barron Gorge where the helicopter circles lower around the falls. This is the visual centrepiece: towering gorge walls and cascading water. From Kuranda, you reverse course and descend gradually, with the view opening out across layered rainforest back toward the coast, islands, and reef edge.
