What to expect
You'll collect your group from Hervey Bay hostels, then cross by ferry to K'gari. Days blend driving, walking, and swimming—expect a mix of sealed tracks and soft sand. Morning briefings cover vehicle safety; no prior 4WD experience is required, but you need a current open driving licence and at least two years' experience. Accommodation is shared-room beach house style. Meals are provided, though dietary restrictions (vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free) incur a small surcharge. The pace is moderate; physical fitness helps, but the tour suits most travellers in reasonable health.
Good to know
Pack a day bag (around 30L maximum). Drivers must be 21+. The tour isn't suitable for pregnant travellers or those with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular fitness. Alcohol and snacks are welcome, though boxed wine isn't permitted. Secure parking and bag storage cost extra if needed.
