2-Day Great Barrier Reef: Reefsleep Experience

About this tour

Spend two days and a night anchored on the Great Barrier Reef, 40 nautical miles offshore. You'll snorkel and explore the coral system via semi-submersible and underwater chamber by day, then sleep in a custom queen-size bed on the pontoon deck under open sky. The experience includes all transport from the mainland, meals, and snorkelling kit. This is genuine overnight immersion on the reef itself, not a day trip—you wake to the sound of water and marine life around you.

Highlights

  • Sleep under stars in a waterproof Reefbed on the pontoon deck
  • Snorkel directly over the coral system with provided equipment
  • Semi-submersible vessel tour with reef ecology briefing
  • Submerged viewing chamber to observe reef life without getting wet
  • Full board: lunch, dinner, breakfast included
  • Round-trip cruise from the mainland (74 km offshore)
  • Operates in all weather; swags are fully waterproof

What to expect

You'll depart the mainland by boat and arrive at Reefworld pontoon in the morning. Spend the day moving between snorkelling sessions, the semi-submersible coral-viewing vessel, and the underwater chamber—all while the pontoon remains anchored. Meals are casual, eaten onboard. After dinner, retire to your Reefbed on the upper deck. There's no escape from the reef experience; you're sleeping metres above it. The pontoon operates regardless of weather, and your swag (bed) zips shut completely if conditions turn. Next morning, breakfast happens before the return cruise to shore. You'll need moderate fitness for climbing in and out of vessels and moving about the pontoon.

Good to know

Pack light—one small bag only. Bring swimwear, sunscreen, light layers, and any money for optional activities (scuba, massage, drinks). Minimum age 12. You'll complete a medical form beforehand; certain conditions may prevent scuba participation. Divers over 55 need a current diving medical certificate. Hotel transfers aren't included, so arrange your own to the departure point.
