Hamilton Island Sailing

Sailing at Hamilton Island is one of the resorts true fun pastimes. Whether you come in your own boat for a regatta or for Hamilton Island race week or you want to take a day trip aboard the resorts private catamaran, the “On The Edge” or hire a bare boat from the Sunsail agents at the marina you will find that sailing around the Whitsunday Passage from the Hamilton Island marina is just about as good as it gets. This whole region is all about water sports and relaxation, right from the tiny catamarans and windsurfers at Catseye Beach, right through to maxi ocean racers and everything in between.

When Hamilton Island race week is in full swing the entire island is caught up in the action. The marina is full of visiting and competing yachts and the restaurant precinct on the harbour foreshore becomes party central. There is no busier time with all the Hamilton Island accommodation usually booked out and crews living aboard their boats. Some of Australia’s most famous ocean racing yachts will be there to participate as well as dozens of cruising yachts who come to join in the fun. Hamilton Island is owned by the Oatley family and Bob Oatley, the family patriarch, is the owner of “Wild Oats” which is Australia’s most successful ocean racing yacht with line honours victories in four Sydney to Hobart yacht races.

Come and join the fun and have a go at participating in sailing at Hamilton Island.
