Coolangatta is Queensland's most southerly coastal town, the gateway to the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales. Located on the border near its twin town of Tweed Heads 100kms south of Brisbane and 900kms north of Sydney, Coolangatta is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing holiday tempered with the excitement of the Gold Coast just minutes away.
Point Danger is in the centre of the two towns, and as well as offering great views also allows you to stand in both Queensland and New South Wales at the same time. There are some fantastic beaches around here, and some attractive coves where you can relax and enjoy the wonderful weather. Coolangatta offers a wonderful patrolled beach with some excellent surfing spots. Some great areas to check out for surfing include Greenmount and Kirra, and you can also find some attractive parklands that are scattered throughout Coolangatta, where you can relax with a picnic.
Coolangatta offers a number of fabulous shops which you can wander around during a sunny day. The Showcase Shopping Centre is situated along Marine Parade, offering beachfront shopping. There are a wide range of shops, as well as some great restaurants and cafés. The Coolangatta Market is another place to go to pick up some bargains and fantastic gifts. The Coolangatta Market is held along Marine Parade on the second Sunday of every month.
Coolangatta is also home to the 'Number One Nostalgia Festival in Australia' featuring everything to do with the popular 50's and 60's Rock'n'Roll years, from music, costumes, dancing and even Hotrod cars. There are a number of bars and clubs around Coolangatta which makes it a lively nightlife centre. There are also several great restaurants and cafés offering al fresco dining. So no matter what kind of meal you are chasing to satisfy your hunger you will find the perfect meal at a great price.
There is plenty of accommodation around Coolangatta from campsites and hostels to hotels, all ranging in price. Many are situated along Marine Parade overlooking the beach. Getting around is also easy with buses travelling along the coast, and the nearby Gold Coast Airport bringing in internal flights from various locations around Australia. Gold Coast Airport also services New Zealand with Freedom Air, as well as Japan and Singapore with Australian Airlines.
Looking for a great day out, and not just for the kids, then you should definitely head to one of the fantastic theme parks that are based on the Gold Coast. You can take your pick from Wet ānā Wild, SeaWorld and Dreamworld where the whole family can be entertained with rides, spills and splashes and the little ones can meet their favourite cartoon character. And if you can't decide on just one and you wish to them all, then you can purchase a number of great passes that include up to all three theme parks for you to enjoy.
If you want to do a bit of exploring you can head up to the Gold Coast Hinterland, where you will find beautiful National Parks, walking tracks, abseiling, shops to browse through and many restaurants where you can order some superb meals. Or perhaps you would like to check out the other areas that make up the Gold Coast such as, South Port, Main Beach, Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. It is here that you can wander through countless retails outlets, dine on exquisite meals, take part in many activities and see a great deal of attractions.
So make the decision to visit Coolangatta, where you can be completely relaxed from the moment you arrive as you are surrounded by peacefulness and tranquillity and away from the hustle and bustle of the big smoke, but still be close to all that this region has to offer its guests.
